So I'm taking a sculpture class at my University this semester and it's pretty interesting.
A lot of the assignments are very abstract and contemporary as I'm sure most of you Uni students know. My current, "piece" has to represent a concept of time.
I decided to do this really cool awesome amazing beautiful sculpture of a cocoon!
(Oh yeah, did I mention it has to be made out of steel?)
After hammering the steel, to give it this textured feel to it, for about 4 hours outside I'm pretty sure my neighbours were ready to shoot me in the head.
My poor cocoon, with lights inside to give it this transformational fade effect, looks like a PICKLE. A fricking PICKLE! A poorly made PICKLE!
There is nothing more depressing than spending a whole day working on a piece of artwork and not being satisfied with it. I swear, I had pickle shaped dreams that night and my brain didn't shut off until 1am.
Ahhh, sculpture is something I have not mastered at ALL yet... I'm afraid of welding and crazy machines that can rip my body in half. I don't think I'll ever make it as a contemporary abstract artist... and certainly not in the 3Dimensional area!
The best way to deal with these kinds of assignments I've found is to, sleep on it.
